Preoperative Diet Plan
2-3 protein drinks every day (morning and lunch)
Palm-sized light meal in the evening (chicken/fish/turkey and vegetables). Make sure
not to have high fat content in meal.
Multi-vitamins every day.
Concentrate on water intake. At least 64 ounces per day.
Avoid snacks. If hungry between mealtimes, drink water.
Avoid sugars/carbs/fats as much as possible.
Protein drinks should
be high in protein (>15 grams per serving); low in carbohydrates
(<5 grams per serving); little or no fat (<3 grams per
serving).
Examples: Atkins; EAS
AdvantEdge; Isopure from GNC. You are looking for whey protein in the
ingredients.
SlimFast, Boost,
Ensure, Choice DM, Glucerna, or any other type of meal supplement
like these are NOT recommended.
If you are diabetic:
You will need to pay close attention to your blood glucose
levels, monitoring them frequently. Hypoglycemia is a potential
problem with an aggressive dietary plan. You may need to reduce the
amount of insulin or the oral diabetic medication that you are
taking. Please contact your primary care physician to notify them
about this aggressive diet that may require medication changes.
If you have high
blood pressure: You will need to watch your blood pressure
readings closely. You may need to contact your primary care physician
to inform them of this diet so that they can monitor your blood
pressure.
